Thank God Elephants Can't Jump

It says "If you don't want to look like this, don't do drugs," and points to the skeleton. I worked hard to get batman as a spokesman, namely, stealing a pencil I liked from the school library to draw him.

In 2nd grade we had a class activity: draw what you were thankful for. Most people drew the usual; family, friends, dog. I, however, was very thankful that the structure of elephant feet prevented them from doing any jumping. Can you imagine that? Elephants free to jump on you anytime, anywhere? Shit's scary.

Some early Darkwing Duck fanart.

To quote my parents, "it's a wonder we didn't think you were gay."

And another picture that shows just how not gay I am.
(obviously ref'd)

Some rotoscoping.

ゴジラ!

A popularly held notion posits that artwork can provide a window to the deeper desires, the unconscious musings, of the artist; this drawing reminds us to close the blinds.Though the drawn notes may not match up, the artist in this picture has put on the song "Improper Dancing" by Electric Six.

STOP!

Continue.

This would be Jude Law.

To explain this picture, I give the following excerpted comment of mine. The artist to whom I spoke said they kept their motivation to finish a piece by not telling anyone about it; I pose a different method.

While the "witholding information" method works well as a motivator, you can alternately say exactly what you're drawing, but before each time you relate progress to someone you amp up the picture. You get inspiration from the innate excitement in the composition.

Example Conversation:

"Hey, I'm drawing this pretty cool picture of a robot."
"Oh? Cool. Can't wait to see it."
"Yeah."

1 hour later

"So the robot has a mustache."
"Haha. That's silly."

2 hours later

"The robot is boxing this old school boxing dude from the 20s."
"Okay..."

3 hours later

"He's fighting him on top of a rooftop. In Tokyo."
"...what?"

Not Long After That

"Godzilla's watching, but they don't have to worry because he just ate Mothra."
"You need help."

When The Picture Really Starts Looking Awesome

"And now they have lazers! Space lazers! And this pretentious dude from the New Yorker is looking on, saying 'How droll.' And the robot has a Ghostbusters logo! Ghostbusters!"
"This, sir, is a legally binding restraining order. Should you fail to heed it, you will be arrested and brought to trial."

Hence, not moments later, I produced the above sketch as a proof of concept.

The boy and the girl in this one sort of have a Robert Sergel (of idiot comics) influence.

A Beartato-Party comic. Last panel didn't work out as I'd hoped.

A Mystery

Can you guess the theme of this sketchbook page? Hint: It starts with the letter e.

Still can't get it?

It's electricity! That's right - every last one of these characters, the moon, the penguin, even the invisible woman, all have electronic or cybernetic components.

Can you tell which artist inspired the style of this drawing?

Matt started starting at the girl. Why? Clearly the fact that you can solve for bound state energies and tunneling effects of a quantum system using a semi-classical approximation is of much more interest than a half-naked girl, right? Then again, experts do recommend connecting things you need to remember to things that evoke a strong mental response...

Eccentrica Gallumbits

More of the latest set, posted now that I have access to my scanner proper.

While neither a prostitute nor an extraterrestrial, this girl's image made the words "Eccentrica Gallumbits, the triple-breasted whore of Eroticon 6" pop into my head frequently.

St. Francis of Partia

My parents brought me along to church for the first time in ages, and we sat behind these two little twin girls working on Catholic coloring books. One of the two worked strictly by the books; finish each picture to the letter and be done with it. The other started drawing kitties and things and eventually drew a pretty rocking party hat on St. Francis. The above is my homage to that girl's masterwork.

Of Thermodynamics and Japanese

A taste of my note-taking skills.

Above you see the formula for the change in Gibbs free energy, and below, a nude woman.

I intended to have a table for him to prop his leg on, but as things went on, I rather absentmindedly forgot.

It's big head office woman!
